1. When does a ceramic filter candle require cleaning?
Candle cleaning is required when the out flow of the filter becomes noticeably less than normal.

2. How should a ceramic candle be cleaned?
As a recommendation, use a scouring pad or brush to clean the candle under running water. Ensure that the end of the plastic mount does not come into contact with dirty water. Soap and detergents are strictly prohibited in cleaning process! The scouring pad or brush should be kept for cleaning ceramic candle only.

3. The filter candle blocks up too regularly, what I can do about it?
It may be caused by highly polluted water supply. There are so much pollutants or harmful particles in the water supply that the candle becomes blocked quickly. Therefore, we recommend that a pre-filter (Apollo Rocket External household Filter) be installed before the point of water supply enter into the kitchen's water filters. Better pre-filtered water supply at the kitchen prevents the ceramic candle from becoming easily blocked, minimizes cleaning and therefore extends the lifespan of the ceramic filter.

4. When do I need to change my ceramic filter candle?
Normally, the filter element should be replaced after 9 - 12 months of daily use. The harmful particulate and pollutants concentration in water supply will affect the performance of the candle. If water supply is too polluted, the ceramic candle must be cleaned frequently and it will shorten the lifespan of candle. In this condition, we recommend that you should change your ceramic candle after 6 months to ensure optimum function of water filtration system.

5. Do I need to sterilize the ceramic candle after cleaning?
EXTRA CLEAN's ceramic filter is manufactured with 'Sterasyl' ceramic shells, which contains traces of silver to prevent microbiological growth. These elements should NOT be sterilized after cleaning. Boiling can damage the internal components of the candle.

6. What should I do if the filter is left unused for a period of time?
Flushes the filter system for several minutes before use the water.

7. What is the hardness of water? Will EXTRA CLEAN able to remove hardness?
The hardness of water is determined by the content of dissolved hardness minerals in water. Unfortunately normal filtration does not remove hardness from water. Hardness of water can be changed by water softening, deionization or magnetic and electrical conditioning devices.

8. Is EXTRA CLEAN able to remove inorganic & radiological contaminants?
Yes. EXTRA CLEAN is able to remove some inorganic and radiological contaminants such as asbestos, lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and other substances up to 99.5% through water filtration system.
Top
9. Will EXTRA CLEAN able to remove organic contaminants from water?
Yes. EXTRA CLEAN is able to filter out more than 116 types of organic contaminants such as Trihalomethanes (carcinogenic substance), Benzene, Chloroform, Trichloroacetonitrile, MTBE, Flouride, Nitrate, Iron, Chlorine and others, to provide clean and safe water supply for daily consumption.

10 .Is EXTRA CLEAN able to remove bacteria?
EXTRA CLEAN is able to filter out pollutants as small as 0.1micron during the filtration treatment. Therefore, it can remove plenty of harmful bacteria such as E. Coli, Pseudamonas aeroginosa, Legionella, Giardia, Cysts and others which able cause diarrhea or illness up to 99.999%.

11. Is it possible for the EXTRA CLEAN cartridge to be affected by low pH or acidic water?
No.
Top
12. Can turbidity be removed by the EXTRA CLEAN system?
Definitely. Turbidity is cloudiness of water, which is caused by tiny particles or colloidal matter in the water. The percentage of turbidity differs greatly from one to another area.

13. Shouldn't a pre-filter such as fabric form filter be used before the EXTRA CLEAN units are used to remove the sediment?
Normally this is not necessary because the EXTRA CLEAN filtration system is a complete system with four of filtration processes including a pre-filter which the matrix system is protected from larger sediment, and also enhanced operational efficiency of filter (ceramic and matrix solid compressed carbon filter) in areas of excessive sedimentation.

14. What is the difference between EXTRA CLEAN and Reverse Osmosis?
Characteristics of Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) unit:
a. Approximately 3-6 gallons of water are wasted to produce a gallon of processed
water,
b. Limited water storage,
c. Removes the beneficial and natural minerals in the water,
d. High cost and maintenance are required.
Characteristics of the EXTRA CLEAN unit:
a. Effectively removes chemicals from water,
b.Able to purifies every gallon of water without wastage,
c.Provides continuous supply of clean and consumption safe water,
d.Retains the natural minerals contents in water.

15. Can the EXTRA CLEAN unit be connected to any type of water dispensers or automatic ice maker?
Yes.
Top
16. How is it possible that natural minerals can be retained wherelse the organic chemicals in water are removed by the EXTRA CLEAN unit?
Since the natural minerals are totally dissolved in solution, therefore, it does not have an actual size causing them to remain unchanged after passing through the filter. The EXTRA CLEAN unit is made by using materials selected for their ability to react with chemicals in the water.

17. When should the Matrix Solid Compressed Carbon filter in EXTRA CLEAN be changed?
The life span of the cartridge depends on the quality and the amount of water used. The flow-rate would be restricted due to the submicron size pores in the solid matrix portion of the filter which may become clogged by particles. It is necessary to change the cartridge when the flow-rate becomes inconvenient to the user. It is recommended that the cartridge be changed every 1-2 years.

18. Why does my EXTRA CLEAN filter water gives out unpleasant odour?
Normally it is caused by the matrix solid compressed carbon filter saturated with pollutants. We recommended that a new matrix solid compressed carbon cartridge be replaced to solve the problem.

19. How is air bubbles formed?
After installation of the EXTRA CLEAN unit air bubbles may appear in the water. This is because of the air trapped in the filtration unit and pipes. This can be improved by allowing water to run through the unit for 3-4 minutes after the installation or even after each change of filter. Anyway, these air bubbles are harmless.

20. Can dioxin be removed by the EXTRA CLEAN unit?
Water that has been contaminated by Dioxin can be purified through the water filter by the EXTRA CLEAN. (Based on US News and World Reports July 4th 1983).
Top
21. Can ammonia be removed by the EXTRA CLEAN unit?
Yes, within the ranges which are normally found in the tap water.
Top
22. Can calcium be removed by the EXTRA CLEAN unit?
No. Calcium is an essential and beneficial mineral for healthy bone and teeth.
Top
23. In fact, will the EXTRA CLEAN unit remove Sulphate?
No. Sulphate compounds are linked to mineral substances and are not removable by the compressed matrix solid activated carbon.
Top
24. Why is the compressed matrix solid activated carbon filter system considered better than the granulated activated carbon (GAC) system?
The main problem of GAC filters is channeling. Water flowing through the filter can "channel" around the carbon granules and pass through it without filtration. When the water pressure and flow rates have changed, this infiltration water can contaminate water through the filter. However, the matrix solid activated carbon in EXTRA CLEAN doesn't have channeling problem and ensures water clusters pass through the filter to complete the filtration process provides that clean and safe water.
